Overview

Engobes are ceramic slip coatings applied between the ceramic body and the glaze layer to mask body colour, improve surface uniformity, and enhance glaze adhesion. They are formulated from clays, quartz, feldspar, and colouring oxides and must be thermally compatible with both the body and glaze during firing.
